While many Americans assume that the U.S.'s recent descent into web-based disinformation is unique and new, it's actually part of a global phenomenon, and many countries have sunk much further into disinformation than the U.S. We start this course by looking at how three countries -- Russia, The Philippines, and China -- have used disinformation to control their populations. These examples represent possible futures for the United States if we can't reclaim some ability and desire to sort truth from fiction, and to address the factors that are pulling our country apart.
